Estimates only
The salaries, taxes, rents and cost-of-living figures on County Paycheck are estimates. They are calculated from public U.S. government data and a set of stated assumptions. They describe a typical single worker with wage income only. They do not describe you, your employer or your household, and your real pay, taxes and expenses will differ.
Not financial, tax or legal advice
Nothing on this site is financial, investment, tax, accounting, legal or career advice, and using it does not create a professional relationship of any kind. Do not make decisions about a job offer, a move, a budget or your taxes based only on these figures. Talk to a qualified professional who knows your situation.
Limits of the data
- Survey data. Wage figures are statistical estimates with sampling error. Some occupations and areas have no published figure.
- Shared regional wages. Counties in the same metropolitan or rural area share the same wage data.
- Simplified taxes. We use standard federal, Social Security, Medicare and state rules for a single filer. Local taxes, credits, deductions, retirement or health contributions and high-income phase-outs are not included.
- Basic costs only. Rent, food, home energy and gasoline are modeled. Health care, insurance, childcare, debt, transportation beyond fuel and other costs are not.
- Timing. Data are updated when agencies release new files, so figures may lag current conditions.
